Fruit Cove and Switzerland

The towns of Fruit Cove and Switzerland are located in St. Johns County and are surrounded by lush, mature trees, riverfront land and dozens of historical landmarks. This region has experienced steady growth over the past few years, primarily due to tourism-related revenue streams. This already dynamic and culturally diverse region looks to expand its job base, creating a flexible business climate to balance its vibrant residential neighborhoods. This area of Northeast Florida enjoys ongoing job growth, an able and abundant workforce and no state income tax. Additionally, the area enjoys a diversified economy balanced among distribution, financial and information services, biomedical technology, manufacturing and insurance industries.

St. Johns County encompasses more than 600 square miles. Between 1990 and 2000, the county’s population grew by nearly 50%, easily making it the fastest-growing county in the state of Florida. This expansion also included such economic factors as job growth and income growth. In addition to economic growth, the county offers numerous points of interest. The Basilica Cathedral of St. Augustine, the Lightner Museum and the Castillo de San Marcos are within arm’s length of Fruit Cove and Switzerland residents.

In addition, the county hosts a number of community events each year. Spring brings the Epic Celebration of Spring and the Spring Arts and Crafts Festival, while the Greek Landing Festival occurs each June. A number of holiday festivals draw hundreds of visitors each winter. Well-known sporting events are also a big draw for this area. St. Augustine hosts the PGA Tour’s annual The Players Championship (TPC) at the renowned TPC Stadium Course at Sawgrass, and Jacksonville’s Altell Stadium hosted NFL’s Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005.

The beaches of northeastern Florida are secluded and unspoiled with more than 40 miles of scenic, uncluttered coastline. This vast stretch of soft, white sand offers residents breathtaking sunrises and sunsets and an endless list of ocean activities to enjoy, from boating and water skiing to wind surfing and fishing. A stroll along the beach might yield a small collection of seashells or a view of a porpoise and maybe a Northern Right Whale.

This wonderful coastline is just a short drive away for Fruit Cove and Switzerland residents. However, residents need not travel far to visit a shoreline, thanks to their proximity to the St. Johns River. Many area homes rest against these banks while others are afforded views of this spectacular body of water. Fishing, boating and other water activities abound during the warmer months, though people tend to remain on land during the cooler winter months.
